Smart Clothing Line

My Fashion Project

This self-developed research project, which I've been working on since 2020, focuses on designing garments made from sustainable, smart materials with multifunctional uses. The goal is to create clothing that can protect humans in the face of pandemics and climate change in the coming years.

With a focus on the future of fashion, I aim to make it both sustainable and multifunctional, utilizing innovative materials emerging in the industry. By connecting fashion, the environment, and human well-being, my work seeks to address the environmental challenges we face. Incorporating technology into fashion is a powerful and important weapon, offering solutions that can help people adapt to a rapidly changing climate.

Abstract

My clothing line combines the concepts of being sustainable, recyclable, and reusable, while embedding synthetic biology sensors (to detect harmful pathogens) into my clothing to help protect people in the upcoming fluctuations in temperature, leading to even more heat waves, droughts, and all the unforeseen circumstances that we as a civilization will soon face. My clothing line has 17 different pieces, each having different purposes, forms, and functions that show how fashion can have a multiplicity of purposes, protecting us from temperature change and diseases, while also maintaining the aesthetics and trends of clothing. My 17 designs are not meant to remain in the lab but will be the face of future fashion.

My project works against ‘Fast Fashion’ and ‘throwaway culture’ to help nurture a global circular economy. Large designers are beginning to express an aspect of my project. At Under Armour, they have already embedded technology to their UA Rush Collection, which is composed of mineral-infused fibers that absorb the body’s heat and convert it into infrared radiation to be re-emitted back to the body. This improves performance, heightens motivation, and replenishes energy. Once a major company, such as Under Armour, overpowers fashion with wearable technology, most other brands follow the trend, which is where my designs are headed, as well.
